HOUSTON -- A driver led officers on a chase from north Houston into Texas City early Friday, police said.

It started in the 1200 block of Crosstimbers Street around 2:40 a.m., according to Houston police spokesman Victor Senties.

HPD said officers patrolling the area tried to stop the driver of a Mazda minivan. He allegedly refused to stop and got onto Interstate 45.

Traveling southbound, police said the suspect then got on Highway 288 and then the South Loop before getting back on I-45.

The driver eventually came to a stop near FM 1765 in Texas City. Police took the man into custody without further incident.

Police said they found a crack pipe on the man, who they originally tried to pull over for traffic violations.

HPD identified the suspect as 35-year-old Juan Guadalupe Morales. He now faces charges of felony evading and possession of a controlled substance.
