HOUSTON -- Freedom over Texas event-goers celebrated through the heat and the rain in the hours leading up to the fireworks spectacular.

Organizers predicted an estimated 55,000 people attended the event, and an estimated 100,000 people gathered outside the event.

“We spent the last seven years overseas so it’s great to be back in America,” said Gary Rickenbacher.

The crowd sang along with Martina McBride beginning around 7 p.m.

Event-goers found creative ways to stay dry when it began raining around 8:00 p.m. Other people decided to up and leave.

“If the weather was just a little more cooperative then maybe we would’ve stayed a little bit longer but no,” said Jorge Delgado.

The rain didn’t last long.

Sheryl Crow took the stage shortly after her scheduled time. After that, people counted down the minutes until the fireworks spectacular.
