HARRIS COUNTY – A former Harris County Sheriff’s deputy has been accused of sexually assaulting a child.

Retired Sgt. John Trump, a 40-year veteran with the Sheriff’s Office, is facing a charge of sexual assault of a child. A little girl he once cared for recently cried out to her relatives that Trump allegedly sexually assaulted her several times during 2011 and 2013.

“Thank goodness she spoke up. Children don’t lie about this. They just don’t lie, it’s got to be true,” Angie Hall, a neighbor, said.

Long time neighbors don’t know what to think.

“You don’t hear this kind of stuff in this neighborhood. This is too much,” Hall said.

Another neighbor said she would see children over at Trump’s home from time to time.

“I would see children over there occasionally, I’m assuming they were his sons,” Sally Deweese, another neighbor, said.

The accusations are especially shocking in light of Trump’s long history of protecting and serving. He was known as a “no-nonsense” kind of guy.

“It’s just very sad, it’s mind numbing, I can’t wrap my brain around it,” Hall said.

The former deputy is being held with no bond. The little girl is with relatives. Her biological mother is not in the picture right now.
