HOUSTON – A former Fort Bend County Sheriff’s deputy was killed late Friday night during an accident while riding his ATV in southwest Houston, police said.
The Houston Police Department said that they received a call at about 10 p.m. from a woman who said that her husband was missing.
She said that he had gone out on an ATV to check their cattle and horses on a large property they own in the 3000block of Moffitt Lane near Landrum Lane.
HPD searched the property, and with the help of a helicopter and a family member, found the missing man, who was pinned beneath his ATV.
Police said the man was making a turn around the feeder bayou that runs into Sims Bayou when the chain he was dragging behind the ATV got caught in a crevice along a concrete area of the bayou.
The ATV was jerked backwards when the chain was caught on a concrete culvert. The vehicle flipped over onto the man and caused him to hit his head, police said.
Police said he died at the scene. They have not released his name yet, but the man was said to be in his 70s.
