HOUSTON -- We’re getting a new look at Friday’s deadly oil platform explosion in the Gulf of Mexico.
Fishermen taping a show for Sport Fishing Television along the Louisiana coast captured the explosion in the background of one of their shots.
“Something just blew up,” exclaimed one of the witnesses. “Yeah it did!”
A body found under that platform was recovered over the weekend, but a second person is still missing.
Dive teams are still searching for the second man, and helicopter companies flying in the area have been asked to look out for a body.
Meanwhile, 11 other workers are recovering after being hurt in the explosion. Some are showing signs of improvement.
“The first two patients remain in critical condition. The third is in serious condition, and I’m pleased to share the fourth patient has just demonstrated significant progress and is now in fair condition,” said a spokesman for Black Elk Energy, the oil platform’s Houston-based owner.
The cause of the platform fire is still under investigation.
