HOUSTON – A woman was rescued Tuesday after a fire broke out at a north Houston home.

It happened around 4 p.m. in the 4700 block of Sharman at Cavalcade. Several residents were able to escape, but the woman was trapped in the porch area.

When firefighters arrived they found the home engulfed with heavy fire and smoke. Approximately 45 firefighters worked on the blaze and it was extinguished by 4:50 p.m.

The woman was transported to the hospital as a precaution for mild smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
