HOUSTON—Houston firefighters extinguished a fire and rebuilt support beams on a balcony at an apartment complex early Sunday morning.
Around 3 a.m., firefighters arrived at the Parkway on Bellaire at Bellaire and Waldo and found heavy flames coming from a downstairs apartment.
Residents exited safely and were treated for cuts and smoke inhalation at the scene.
The fire damaged the support beams that hold up the outside balcony on one building, so members of the heavy rescue team built new beams and put them in place until apartment management can address the problem.
One unit was damaged by fire and another two were affected by smoke damage.
Arson is investigating the cause of the fire.
