Firefighters battling grass fire in north Harris County

Firefighters are battling a grass fire on 15 acres Friday evening in north Harris County. Crews from various agencies have been fighting the fire since 6 p.m. Fire officials said that they the fire about 25 percent contained and that no evacuations are planned at this point for the surrounding neighborhoods.

SPRING, Texas – Firefighters are battling a grass fire on 15 acres Friday evening in north Harris County.

Crews from various agencies have been fighting the fire since 6 p.m. near Cypresswood Drive. Fire officials said that they the fire about 25 percent contained and that no evacuations are planned at this point for the surrounding neighborhoods.

They have set up a command center at Gloria Marshall Elementary School. Fire officials said that the heavy smoke should last until this morning.

Several fire departments are on the scene. There was a report that one truck was lost to the fire, but officials said that it was just stuck in the mud and not in danger at this time.
