CYPRESS, Texas – Firefighters responded to a fire that may have been started by lightning at an oil storage facility Saturday afternoon in northwest Harris County.

Police and firefighters received several 911 calls about several explosions at about 3 p.m. in the area of Paddock Bend Drive and FM 529.

The fire marshal said lighting from Saturday’s thunderstorms hit the facility causing six tanks of various sizes to explode.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire, which sent a large, dark plume of smoke into the air. They also put foam over the area  to make sure that there are not any hot spots.

No injuries were reported.
