HOUSTON -- A fire in southeast Houston damaged a grandfather’s longtime home overnight.

Early Friday firefighters were on Sandhurst Drive working to put out the hotspots.

Nathan White told KHOU 11 News he has lived at the home for more than 40 years, and it’s the same home where he and his wife lived until she died 11 years ago.

White and his granddaughter barely escaped when the fire broke out.

“It was burning in the corner,” said White. “I ran in the kitchen to get some water in a pot to try and put it out, but it was just burning too fast. Just went straight on up.”

No injuries were reported.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
