THE WOODLANDS, Texas –- All northbound mainlanes of I-45 were shut down early Wednesday after a fiery crash killed at least one person.

The incident happened shortly after 3 a.m. near the exit for Lake Woodlands Drive, according to deputies. As of 6 a.m., two lanes and a frontage road lane remained blocked.

Witnesses said a truck crashed into the concrete base of a light pole and then caught fire.

A Shenandoah police officer was nearby at the time. She told KHOU 11 News she heard the crash, which sounded like an explosion. She saw the flames covering the truck, but no one made it out.

The incident shut down all northbound lanes for more than an hour.

Investigators continued to look through the evidence several hours later. There was no early word on a cause for the wreck.
