GALVESTON, Texas -- A federal jury has ruled that four Galveston police officers used excessive force after responding to a rowdy wedding party in 2008.

The jury awarded $49,500 in damages to several plaintiffs. However, the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict in the case of former Houston Astros pitcher Brandon Backe.

He sought $13 million for injuries he claims ended his baseball career.
