HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A Katy-area man was gunned down with his wife and two stepchildren nearby early Wednesday and the killers are on the loose.
Harris County deputies said it was just before 1 a.m. Wednesday when three men knocked on the door of a downstairs unit at the Westborough Crossing Apartments.
When 38-year-old Jesus Escobedo answered the door, the suspects forced their way in. They forced the victim into a bedroom where he was shot to death.
Escobedo’s wife and stepchildren were not injured.
The wife told investigators the gunmen wore masks and she didn’t see their faces or their getaway car.
Investigators said the victim’s wife told them the men apparently wanted something, but due to a possible language barrier, she wasn’t able to say what it was.
"We don’t have a motive—keep on our investigation at this point because we don’t have a motive," said Sgt. Felipe Rivera with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
They don’t believe anything was stolen from the home.
"It appears to be random. I mean there’s no indication that he knew these people, according to the wife…"
The victim’s 9-year-old stepson ran to tell neighbors that his dad had been shot.
"My heart dropped, you know, and I was just like, ‘We’re here for you, anything you need, I’m so sorry, we’re here for you. Anything you need,’" Megan O’Brien said.
