HOUSTON—Harris County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a group of suspects who shot and robbed a father of five right outside his home early Tuesday.
It happened in the 13900 block of Bammel North Houston Road in northwest Harris County.
Family members said Jose Soto was returning home from working the night shift at Pappadeaux around 4 a.m. when he was approached by three suspects. His son, Javier Soto, said the suspects demanded cash, but his dad refused to hand over the $500 he worked so hard to earn.
"It was three people that came to rob him and they told him to get to the ground, but he didn’t want to," Javier said. "So they shot him and he grabbed the gun from them and yanked it and shot in the air, then they ran off."
After being shot, the victim stumbled to his front door.
His wife heard the gunshots and went to investigate. She found her husband bleeding on the doorstep.
Jose Soto was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital for treatment. His condition was not known.
Police said it wasn’t the first time a resident was robbed in the middle of the night at the complex.
In fact, investigators believe the same three suspects have been stalking the apartments and targeting night-shift workers.
One neighbor, a woman who did not want to be identified, said she was held at gunpoint a few weeks ago.
"I heard about what happened last night," she said. "Look, I’m shaking as I’m talking about it."
Anyone with information on the suspects’ identities should call the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
