HOUSTON -- The father of a toddler found wandering around Trader’s Village parking lot on Sunday is explaining his side of the story.
The boy's father says the ordeal has been emotional for his entire family.
A passerby in the Trader’s Village parking lot told investigators that the unattended child almost got hit by a car.
Trader’s Village Flea Market called for the boy’s parents over the intercom, but got no response.
The child spent the night in CPS custody and was never reported missing. The boy’s photograph aired in media reports on Monday, and a family member subsequently came forward.
The father says this was all a big misunderstanding.
He says it started when he and his wife got into an argument. According to the father, as they were leaving the flea market, he saw his son Xavier following his wife.
He says he didn’t know his son was missing until his sister called him on Monday.
The father says Xavier and another child are at his parents’ house while CPS investigates.
CPS says their investigation could take up to a month.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office says it has closed the criminal investigation into this case and no charges will be filed.
