HOUSTON -- CPS officials said the father of the abandoned baby left at a Harris County fire station had no idea his mother had given him away.

The parents live together, but the mother did not tell the father she'd given up their son, according to authorities. The father said she lied to him about the whereabouts of the 9-month-old.

The father found out from CPS when they called to see if he wanted to take care of the boy.

He said that's when he learned his son was left in a stroller outside Fire Station 39 on Monday morning.

The boy was in foster care while his father tried to regain custody.
