HOUSTON -- A southeast Houston man was gunned down in front of his new home as he left for work early Friday morning.
Jose Gomez, 36, was getting in his landscaping truck about 5:30 a.m. when he was killed at the corner of Phlox and Cullen.
A few minutes later another family member, Britney Davis was leaving for work and found Gomez in the ditch, bleeding.
“I don’t’ know what’s going on. This world is getting crazier and crazier,” Angela Johnson, Gomez’ common-law wife, said. “He didn’t owe nobody, no money. He was not on no dope. He was a good man. If you needed help, he would help you.”
Gomez’s arm was raised covering his head as if to protect himself. Davis said, “The bullet went through his arm, in his cheek and through his head.”
Gomez and Johnson had been together about 10 years and moved into their new duplex just six months ago. She said he had nothing to steal when he was working.
Another couple, relatives, was arguing on the lawn the night before and Gomez stepped in to break things up. While family members don’t know why he was shot, they are certain though that argument had nothing to do with his murder.
