HOUSTON – A Houston family says their loved one died after being handcuffed and beaten while in HPD custody.
Jason Lewis, 40, reportedly had extensive bruising over his entire body, including wounds the family said are from police hitting and kicking him.
"We don't know what happened," said Doug Lewis, the victim's father. "Give me some answers."
Jason's girlfriend called police on April 16. She said Jason was breaking mirrors and trying to cut himself. The original HPD statement on the incident said he was restrained after threatening officers and became unresponsive after hitting his head on the ground.
HPD accused the family’s attorney of using “false and inaccurate information to sensationalize a tragic event.”
