HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- Friends and family said their goodbyes to a teen who was fatally shot in his girlfriend’s bedroom last week.
A memorial service for 17-year-old Johran McCormick was held Sunday afternoon in Spring.
“Honestly I don’t think it hit a lot of us yet that this is the reality of the situation,” said cousin Khiron Woods. “Anytime I talk about him I have to smile. Anytime anybody talks about him, anytime somebody has some sort of memory with him, it’s positive.”
Friends wore bow ties to the service, a style that McCormick liked.
McCormick was shot in the head inside a Spring-area home on Bridgestone Lakes subdivision off FM 2920 last week, deputies said. Investigators said the father accused in the shooting woke up to find Johran in his 16-year-old daughter’s bedroom.
According to detectives, the man's daughter let Johran in the house and snuck him into her bedroom.
The father walked in and asked questions, but his daughter claimed to not know Johran. The father then called 911, but an argument ensued with the teenage boy.
The father told deputies that Johran dropped his hands as if to grab something, so the man opened fire. The teen died at the scene, deputies said.
HCSO investigators said they will present their findings to the Harris County Grand Jury for its consideration.
