HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -– One of two men suspected of smashing a stolen truck into a gas station on FM 1960 was in custody following a chase and a crash early Tuesday, deputies said.

Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said it was around 2 a.m. when someone crashed a stolen Sherwin Williams paint pickup truck into the front glass doors of a Chevron Station on FM 1960 at Cypress Station.

Deputies said two men in the truck tried to take the store’s ATM, but they did not realize a clerk was still in the closed business. The clerk yelled at the men, who then jumped back in the truck and sped away without taking anything.

As they sped away, the men nearly hit a Houston Police Department patrol unit that happened to be driving by. The officer chased the men for a few blocks, but the suspects lost control and crashed into a pole near Overland Trail. The men then jumped out and ran on foot.

The HPD officer managed to grab one of the men. He then turned the suspect over to deputies.

The other man got away.
