Elderly woman dies after southwest Houston home fills with smoke

HOUSTON—An elderly woman found unresponsive Monday in her smoke-filled southwest Houston home has died, The Houston Fire Department said.

Firefighters were called to the 3900 block of Glenn Ricki Drive around 8:18 p.m. They found heavy smoke coming from the woman’s one-story home.

They forced their way inside and found a fire on the stove. The victim was unconscious on the ground nearby.

She was rushed to Memorial Herman Hospital in extremely critical condition.

HFD said the woman was pronounced dead at the hospital.
