HOUSTON –- An elderly man lost his childhood home in a southeast Houston fire early Wednesday.

Firefighters were called to Linden Street near Coral Street around 2:45 a.m.

According to the Houston Fire Department, the first firefighters on the scene saw heavy flames coming from the back of the one-story home. They made a fast attack and put out the fire but not before the home sustained serious damage.

No one was home at the time, but the older man who lives there returned home a short time later to see firefighters battling the flames.

When asked what he’d miss most about the home, Billy Hayes was quick to respond.

“My radio,” said Hayes. “I listen to it. That’s all I got in there. I like my music.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation by HFD Arson.

No injuries were reported.
