HOUSTON—An elderly couple struck a man who walked in front of their vehicle in east Harris County early Friday, according to deputies.
The accident happened on Maxey at Wood Forest around 5 a.m.
Harris County Sheriff’s deputies said the man was attempting to cross Maxey from the east to the west side, in an unprotected area, when he was struck by the couple’s Toyota.
The Toyota was traveling south on Maxey and the driver did not see the man in the street until it was too late.
The pedestrian went up onto the front windshield of the car, then landed in the ditch on the side of the road. He suffered a broken leg and multiple bruising, but was conscious and talking as he was transported to Ben Taub Hospital in serious, but stable condition.
The elderly couple was not hurt, but emotionally shaken. Their daughter came to the scene to pick them up. No charges were expected to be filed.
