HOUSTON – Police in east Houston said a homeowner shot a teenager who was allegedly breaking into a home on Wednesday morning.

It happened around 11 a.m. in the 10100-block of Valencia Drive, according to the Houston Police Department.

Police said the homeowner called 911 and reported hearing the suspects breaking into his home while he slept. As soon as he saw them at the back of his home wearing all black, he opened fire.

“I was inside working when all the sudden I heard a gunshot, but I figured it was the warehouse back there – that they dropped something ,” said neighbor Rick Saucedo. “As soon as the cops got here I figured something did happen. It was a gunshot.”

The struck teen, who was 16 or 17 years old, was taken into police custody and sent to East Houston Medical Center with an injury to his shoulder.

As of noon police were still scouring the neighborhood looking for the second suspect. They said he was a male in his late teens wearing black jeans and a black t-shirt with some type of yellow writing on it.
