Early voting kicks off Monday

HOUSTON – Those wishing to get a jump-start on the polls can began making their votes count today. Early voting begins Monday, October 24 and ends Friday, November 4.

"Protests do not lead to change near as much as voting causes change. With ten constitutional amendments, City of Houston Mayor and Council positions, and over a dozen more jurisdictions on the ballot, now is the time for the Citizens of Harris County to let their voice be heard. Study the issues and the candidates, then vote," said Harris County Clerk Stan Stanart, the chief elections officer of the county.

Any citizen who is registered to vote in Harris County may vote at any one of the Harris County early voting locations during the early voting period.

Early Voting Infrastructure:

There are 37 Early Voting locations in Harris County.

By law, at minimum, there must be one early voting site per a state representative district (SRD). Currently, there are 25 State Representative Districts in Harris County.

There are 12 State Representative Districts with two Early Voting locations.

There are 18 Early Voting Sites inside Beltway 8.

There are 19 Early Voting Sites outside Beltway 8.

Time Provided for Early Voting

The early voting period runs for 12 consecutive days. During that period there is one weekend.

During the first week of the early voting period, October 24th to October 28th, voting hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

During the one weekend of the early voting period, October 29 and 30th, voting hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday and from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.

During the second week of the early voting period, October 31st to November 4th, voting hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The early voting period provides Harris County voters 119.5 hours (7,170 minutes) to vote.

Who can vote during the early voting period?

During the early voting period by personal appearance any citizen who is registered to vote in Harris County may vote at any one of the Harris County early voting locations.

Early voting in person was passed by the Legislature in 1987 and was first used in the Nov. 1987 election on constitutional amendments.
