HOUSTON – A Houston police officer is lucky to be alive Sunday after nearly being run over by a drunk driver on the Katy Freeway in west Houston.
According to the Houston Police Department, the officer had a vehicle pulled over on the shoulder and was issuing a speeding ticket when a driver came along and smashed into the back end of his police cruiser.
The accident happened at 3:45 a.m. on the Katy Freeway near Antoine.
The impact pushed the police cruiser into the car that was pullover on the shoulder, police said.
Luckily the police officer was able to jump out of the way and avoided being hit by the car.
Police said there were no reported injuries. The suspect driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
