Driver taken into custody after hitting woman on Westheimer Road

According to the Houston Police Department, the incident happened at 1:45 a.m. as a driver turned right onto Westheimer from Nantucket. HPD said the driver didn’t look both ways and ended up hitting an 18-year-old female who was jogging on the sidewalk.

HOUSTON —- Police said a woman was seriously injured early Friday morning when she was struck by a driver on Westheimer Road a couple miles west of the Galleria.

According to the Houston Police Department, the incident happened at 1:45 a.m. as a driver turned right onto Westheimer from Nantucket. HPD said the driver didn’t look both ways and ended up hitting an 18-year-old female who was jogging on the sidewalk.

Police said the driver stopped and waited for officers to arrive. The woman was sent to the hospital in serious but stable condition.

HPD officers performed a field sobriety test on the driver before taking him into custody. It was not known if the man would face any charges for the accident.

A passenger in the vehicle was not injured.
