HOUSTON -- Houston police are looking for the gunman who shot a driver, causing him to crash into an apartment complex.

It happened around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday on Crofton near Tidwell in northeast Houston.

A preliminary investigation indicated the victim, 33, was driving his car near the apartment complex when he was shot in the back of the head.

Witnesses said they heard the gunshot and looked outside to see a car against the apartments. The victim was slumped over in the driver’s seat.

“We just moved here in November, and this is the first time something like that’s happened over here,” said one renter. “I hear gunshots every night. That’s like music to my ears, but this is the first time something like this has happened.”

Neighbors said small children were inside the struck apartment, and they’re lucky the car didn’t smash through the wall.

Police were still looking for the suspects and talking to witnesses several hours after the shooting.

The man who was shot was listed in critical condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital. Officials said he went into surgery around 3:30 a.m.
