HOUSTON -- A driver ran a red light and smashed into a police officer on Friday. It happened on Jefferson at Milam in downtown Houston.

Police said around 11:30 p.m., the deputy was travelling southbound on Milam in a marked unit. A small, red car ran a red light and smashed into the deputy at the Jefferson intersection. That crash sent the deputy’s car into the bushes.
The deputy was transported to St. Joseph’s hospital in stable condition.
The suspect was not injured. Police said he will be tested for alcohol.
