HOUSTON—A boy and girl were hit while crossing Sweetwater and Saddle Rock as they trick-or-treated in a north Houston neighborhood on Halloween night, witnesses said.

According to witnesses, the boy who was hit went “airborne.”

Neighbors said the children ran ahead of the adults, and the accident happened while the two kids were crossing the main road.

“The kid was up on the hood, and he fell into the street,” said neighbor Burton Hayslip. “I seen him tumble in front of the car.”

The conditions of the children were unclear as of 9:15 p.m. Wednesday night. Neighbors said the girl was taken away by ambulance, and the boy was airlifted to a hospital.

“I just seen the kid in the air, and when he came down, it’s like she couldn’t stop,” said neighbor Cory Samuel.

Police questioned the woman who was behind the wheel of a small SUV.

Some witnesses said she was detained by neighbors after the accident. That was unconfirmed by police.

Investigators did not say whether the driver could be facing any charges.

“There’s candy and bags everywhere. It is devastating right now,” said neighbor Tabitha McLenon.

The accident brought a night of trick-or-treating to a halt for a number of kids in the neighborhood. Parents said the dangers of walking out in the dark became all too real this Halloween.
