HOUSTON—One person was killed Saturday morning in an alcohol-related crash near the Houston Ship Channel, according to Houston police.
Two people in a gray car were traveling eastbound on the East Loop at Lawndale, just before the Ship Channel Bridge, around 3:20 a.m. when the driver lost control. The car slammed into a concrete barrier and spun out into a moving lane of traffic, where it was hit by a Jeep traveling in the same direction.
The driver of the car died at the scene and the passenger was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
“The driver of the Jeep was not injured and was found to be intoxicated. DWI charges right now are pending and any further charges will be a result of further investigation,” said Sgt. Tim Trometer, Houston Police Department.
