Driver dies after losing control, sliding into oncoming traffic in northeast Houston

HOUSTON — A young man was killed Sunday night when he lost control of his vehicle and was struck by oncoming traffic in northeast Houston, according to Houston police.

Police said the man, 20-year-old Daniel Hope, was traveling at a high rate of speed in a Toyota Corolla eastbound in the 9200 block of Tidwell around 8:20 p.m. when he struck a curb, overcorrected and slid into oncoming traffic.

A GMC Envoy driven by a man in his 60s t-boned the Corolla, pinning the younger driver inside. The driver was freed from the wreckage, but died as a result of his injuries.

The driver of the Envoy was transported to LBJ Hospital with minor injuries.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash. They said there were no immediate signs of alcohol.
