HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -– Deputies said a 25-year-old driver was critically injured when he slammed into steel beams on the back of a tractor trailer along FM-529 early Wednesday.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened around 12:45 a.m. near Paddock Bend Drive.

Deputies said a big rig with a flatbed trailer was attempting to make a left turn when the driver of an SUV apparently failed to see the steel beams sticking off the back.

The SUV was torn apart, and the driver suffered head injuries, deputies said. The young man was sent to the hospital in critical condition.

Sheriff’s office investigators said they would look into whether or not the truck was properly loaded.
