KATY, Texas -- Erin, Blanca, friends in their Katy neighborhood, spend part of each day searching for and often finding a pair of desperate dogs.

“They have been seeing us every day for the past two weeks because we have been bringing them their food and their water,” said Erin.

The food and water they’ve been providing appears to have arrived in a nick of time. The dogs have been hanging out behind a vacant and recently foreclosed home. Erin and Blanca first noticed them there two weeks ago, along with a third dog that Blanca is temporarily keeping with her.

“We know there are a lot of houses that have been abandoned and these dogs have been abandoned,” added Erin.

So the women took pictures of the dogs and printed out flyers. They've also set up a Facebook page to try and find a home for the dogs.

The women were even hoping Houston’s no-kill shelters would be a good fit for the animals. But they say every shelter they’ve checked with no longer has any room.

“We’ve called animal control but after a few days they’ll be put down if we can’t find homes for them,” said Erin.

Until then, Erin and Blanca could be the dogs’ best hope.

“I can’t look away,” said Blanca. “They are animals. They need our help. And if we don’t do it and turn them away, they won’t survive.”
