HOUSTON — Witnesses say three pit bulls attacked a man as he walked down a southeast Houston roadway early Monday morning.

The attack happened around 3:30 a.m. on Ward Street at Paris Street.

A neighbor told KHOU 11 the man suffered severe bites to his leg. He staggered to a nearby home to call 911 and was then taken to the hospital.

Houston police and Harris County Animal Control arrived at the scene to try and corral the dogs, who retreated back into a fenced in area.

One man was taken into custody at the scene for questioning.

It took officials more than an hour to capture the three dogs involved in the attack. A fourth dog at the home was also taken by officials.

One neighbor told KHOU 11 he had seen the dogs fighting in the backyard before.

“I’ve been seeing them fighting over there. They be having them in the backyard fighting. All the time. We see it from here. They be right there in the backyard,” Doris Thompson, a neighbor said.

Another neighbor added that the dog are always up to something in the backyard.

“Every time I go back there and check, it’s like three or four of them raising cain back there. But I’ve never seen them fighting,” Artie Pendergras, another neighbor, said.

An update on the victim’s condition was not available.
