HOUSTON -- A deputy accused of disclosing confidential law enforcement information in exchange for cash was arrested Wednesday at the Harris County Jail where he was assigned, officials said.
The U.S. Attorney's Office said Kurt Douglas Green, 42, of Hockley, Texas, tapped into a restricted law enforcement database and then sold the information he found.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has computers for law enforcement use which provide access to various databases including the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
"Misuse of the authority vested in a law enforcement officer by the position of trust he holds affects us all," said United States Attorney José Angel Moreno. "We - the law enforcement community and the public at large alike - stand to lose much. The indictment unsealed today evidences our continued commitment to maintain the public's trust and the integrity of law enforcement."
Green appeared in front of a federal magistrate Wednesday afternoon. As he left the courthouse he ran from an 11 News photographer.
Green had nothing to say. His attorney spoke for him.
“I think he’s just embarrassed. Anytime anyone gets arrested, especially someone in law enforcement, it’s an embarrassment to them,” said Richard Cobb.
Green is not in custody. He’s out on a $75,000 bond.
Green worked at the jail located at 701 San Jacinto and has been with the department since 1996. He is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
