Deputies: Woman killed in wrong-way crash on 59 in Fort Bend County

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas –- A wrong-way crash that killed a woman and resulted in a hazmat spill shut down all southbound lanes of Highway 59 in Fort Bend County.

According to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, a woman in a silver Mitsubishi Eclipse went northbound in the southbound lanes. She collided with a dump truck just after 3 a.m.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The dump truck driver did not appear to be seriously injured, but the truck turned over.

Hazmat crews were brought in, and the freeway remained closed for several hours.

The freeway reopened shortly before 9 a.m.
