HOUSTON—An argument over a trip to the store turned deadly Saturday when a stepfather shot and killed his stepson on the young man’s birthday, according to authorities. The stepfather then ended his own life and three innocent children witnessed the entire tragedy.

It happened in the 13900 block of Brownsville in east Harris County around 5:30 p.m.

Harris County Deputies said the stepfather, 45-year-old Porfirio Sanchez, was upset because his stepson took his three younger siblings to a nearby store without his permission.

The stepson, Jose Sanchez, was celebrating his 20th birthday and didn’t seem to think it was a problem.
The two began to argue over the situation. That is when the stepfather told the stepson to step outside the home. He then pulled out a pistol and shot the young man in the head.
As family members rushed to try and save the stepson’s life, the stepfather turned the gun on himself.
By the time paramedics arrived to the scene, both men were dead.
Family members said the two men often had their differences, but they never imagined it could end so violently.
Several people outside the family also witnessed the crime. A passerby lost control of an SUV after witnessing the shooting.
