HOUSTON – A dementia patient who walked away from his assisted living center Saturday was found safe Monday, police said.
Ahmed Hussein, 48, was located around 9:15 a.m. seven miles away at a body shop in the 13400 block of South Main near Hillcroft.
Hussein disappeared from Stoneybrook Healthcare Center located in the 8200 block of Stoney Brook around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
Police said a body shop employee saw Hussein trying to get into cars, likely to protect himself from the cold. The search for Hussein was urgent because he wasn’t dressed for the cold weather and he doesn’t speak much English, officials said.
This is the second time that the man had wandered off in three months.
Stoneybrook could face questions about security, following Hussein’s escape.
A recent report by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services yields some interesting insights about the facility. During a comprehensive inspection of its nursing facilities on Dec. 9, 2011, 22 violations of federal standards were found. The state average is 11.
Among the deficiencies cited: not giving each resident care and services to keep the highest quality of life possible, not making sure the nursing home was free of dangers that could cause accidents and not having a program to keep infection from spreading.
The overall rating: 38 out of a possible 100. The Department of Aging and Disability Services says the rating does not represent its judgment concerning the quality of Stoneybrook’s services. It is simply a way to make quick comparisons.
