HOUSTON -- It was a case no one was supposed to know about and no one was ever supposed to see.

At about 1 p.m. Saturday, the Drug Enforcement Agency was working an undercover narcotics case and closing in on four suspects in a parking lot. The lot is used by employees of the Houstonian, one of the city’s finest hotels.

The agent, described in his 30s and in plain clothes, had cornered the suspects in their SUV. When they saw him approach, the driver allegedly tried to speed off.

“Revving his engine, knowing he’s about to be cornered by a number of other agents,” HPD spokesman John Cannon said. “He probably had every intention of running down the DEA agent, and anyone else who got in his way.”

Cannon said the agent drew his gun and fired multiple times at the truck, believed to be a Honda CRV. The agent was not hurt, but a suspect inside was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The three other suspects were cuffed and questioned on site. All four now face federal charges.

It is still not clear what brought them to the lot or if the case involved drugs.
