HOUSTON -- From inside the Harris County Jail, shooting suspect Randy Stewart spoke out saying he's not the one who fired a gun at the violent Cypress birthday party that left two people dead and 19 others injured.

Stewart is charged with aggravated assault, but claims he was just at the party and like everyone else, panicked when the lights went out and gunmen opened fire.

Stewart said he knows both deceased victims and considers Qu'eric Richardson "like a brother.”

Richardson's family said they don't believe Stewart killed their son, and they say the two have known each other since elementary school.

However, one of the surviving victims told investigators Stewart pointed a gun at him and fired.

Stewart said the witness is wrong. He has a message to both families of the deceased victims.

"I'm sorry this happened, but I am not the one who did it," Stewart said.
