HOUSTON - Thousands of cyclists took off at 6:45 a.m. Saturday from Tully Stadium and Katy’s Rhodes Stadium on a mission to raise money and awareness of multiple sclerosis.

The annual endurance bike ride is the largest of its kind in the nation. Given the tragic events in Boston, security for the ride has been heightened this year.

More than 13,000 riders will take two days to pedal the 180 miles from Houston to Austin. They will camp overnight in La Grange.

Among them are some familiar KHOU faces: Reporters Malini Basu, Tiffany Craig, Jeremy Rogalski, Sherry Williams and Tim Wetzel.

The KHOU-My Fit Foods Bike Team is Houston’s only TV bike team. There are 19 members on it this year.
