HOUSTON — When a crowd bigger than the city of Huntsville showed up for the first night of the cook off at Reliant Park, you’re bound to have some problems.

A viewer sent KHOU 11 News cell phone video of a man asked to leave at the end of the night.

Instead, he wound up in a scuffle with police and got stunned with a Taser and arrested. He was charged with assaulting a police officer and public intoxication.

But that’s a small hiccup in one of the city’s main events.

“Yeah, I’m the designated driver, to let my friends have a good time,” said Tommy Monks.

Monks has the right idea. He’ll be tasting barbecue and leaving his friends to enjoy the adult beverages.

Of the more than 300 teams participating in the cook off, each hires private security to make sure things go well and everyone behaves.

On the first night of the cook off, a dozen people were arrested and charged with public intoxication.
