HOUSTON -- A sinkhole opened up in the streets of downtown Houston early Wednesday, less than 24 hours after heavy rain swept through Southeast Texas.
The hole, located on Walker at San Jacinto, appeared to be about five feet in diameter.
A steel plate was brought in as a temporary solution, but workers with backhoes soon arrived to investigate and provide a more permanent fix.
There was no early word on how long it would take to fix.
Several lanes of traffic were blocked so repairs could be made -- drivers are advised to avoid the area.
