HOUSTON – A construction worker was killed Thursday night when a trench collapsed on top of him in northwest Harris County Thursday night.

Contractors were doing repairs on a broken water main under Logenbaugh at Oakfield Glen around 10:15 p.m.

They dug a trench about 15 to 20 feet deep, but the walls were apparently not shored properly and the wet mud and dirt gave way and started to fall on two workers at the bottom of the trench.

One of the men was able to crawl out, but the other was buried by the mud.

Cy-Fair Heavy rescue and other emergency crews several hours to dig him out, because they had to secure the walls first. By the time they found the worker, he was dead.

It was not known what company the crew worked for.
