CONROE— A father who walked seven miles roundtrip to his job every day was killed Tuesday morning on the way to work.

Stefan Dobei worked at American Well Control down FM 2854.

As he crossed Loop 336 just after 5 a.m., he was hit by an SUV.

Conroe Police Sergeant Robert Engel said the car behind the SUV also hit him.

"After that impact, there was another car that was westbound." Said Sgt. Engle. "Its very dark out here at night and they didn’t see the victim laying in roadway and they also ran over him."

All the money Dobei made was sent back to his family in Romania. He had a wife and three children.

A friend said making that long distance call to his wife was painful.

"She start screaming," he said. "She cried."

The crash was determined to be an accident. Neither driver will be charged.

The accident shut down the road for several hours.
