HOUSTON – The Houston Marathon Committee on Monday announced the names of the runners selected to participate in the 2011 race.
More than 29,000 runners registered for the event. Using a new lottery system, officials selected 22,000 lucky athletes.
"Demand for our races has reached an all-time high, and while we understand the disappointment of those not selected, we are confident that the lottery system provided the fairest opportunity for runners to register and be selected for our races," said race director Brant Kotch. "Our organization is dedicated to creating a participant experience that is second to none and we look forward to hosting yet another exciting, safe, and enjoyable race weekend in 2011."
Officials said everyone who registered will be notified of their status via e-mail on Monday or Tuesday.
