HOUSTON—Kanye West’s Nike Air Yeezy 2 sneakers are hitting stores tomorrow and sneaker lovers are going to great lengths to obtain a pair.

"It’s not necessarily about the price tag. It’s not to be flashy. I personally have a passion for my sneakers. I’ve been into sneakers since I was a child," said customer Ashley Smith.

A pair of Nike’s Air Yeezy 2 shoes has its own bag, faux reptile skin, glow-in-the-dark soles and celebrity rep. It’s Kanye West’s concert shoe.

In stores, the after tax retail price is around $300. Online, people are bidding thousands.

Somebody on Ebay paid more than $90,000 for a pre-ordered pair.

"They’re coming out in very limited numbers. It’s not a lot of press on them. Very select stores are getting them around the world. It’s rumored that they only made 5,000 pairs for the whole world," said another customer Colorado Fails.

It’s why Fails and his three friends each took vacation, carpooled from Dallas-Forth Worth to Houston and have been living out of their car since last month waiting for a chance to buy.

Active Athlete, one of two Houston stores selling the shoes, banned camp-outs. Instead, they sold 125 raffle tickets for $25 apiece. They’ll reveal a handful of winners online.

"That way we give everyone that is interested in the shoe equal opportunity to purchase it," said Active Athletes Brand Advisor Adrian Sanchez.

"We came to this place because they know they do fair business. They don’t do a lot of playing around with prices," said Oz Flores, a customer.
