HOUSTON — A 33-year-old man was medevaced Saturday afternoon after he was believed to be experiencing stroke-like symptoms, 85 miles off Galveston.

The captain aboard the 36-foot chartered fishing boat Catch Hitter called the U.S. Coast Guard just before noon to report the man’s condition and ask for assistance.

The USCG launched a helicopter from Air Station Houston. The aircrew transferred the man to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in stable condition.

“In this case, it’s a lucky break that the captain had a satellite phone on board and was able to contact us when his radio was out of range,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class John Terrell, an operations specialist at Sector Houston-Galveston.
