HOUSTON -- Police said a clerk was shot multiple times overnight at his northeast Houston store, but robbery was apparently not the motive.
It happened around midnight Tuesday on Lockwood at Kelly.
Houston police said the clerk was taking trash to the dumpster behind the Hopcus Mini-Mart. Someone approached and shot several rounds, hitting him in the leg and the back.
"I was scared because I didn't want the bullet to hit me for no reason," said witness Robert Allen.
The shooter then fled the scene.
The clerk was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition.
Police said the store was not being robbed, but instead they’re looking into the possibility of a threat made against the clerk earlier in the evening. The clerk said he refused to sell an angry customer a beer – and the customer may have returned for revenge.
The investigation is on-going.
